On March 25th, Elergone Energia hosted the HEDGE-IoT PT Pilot Workshop, bringing together all Portuguese partners of the HEDGE-IoT – Living Lab for Interoperable AI-based Energy Services project. The event, held at Elergone Energia’s headquarters, served as a key platform for discussion, alignment, and technical deep dives into the pilot’s objectives and implementation.

Collaboration for Smarter Energy Management

The workshop welcomed representatives from leading energy organizations, including Cooperativa Elétrica do Vale d’Este (CEVE), REN, R&D Nester, MC, and INESC TEC. The event featured expert speakers, such as Amândio Ferreira (Elergone Energia), Fábio Coelho and Vasco Campos (INESCTEC), Ana Pereira (CEVE), and Ricardo Pastor and Rui Pestana (REN + R&D Nester).

With Portugal’s energy transition gaining momentum, the HEDGE-IoT PT Pilot aims to demonstrate the feasibility of aggregating flexibility for system services provision to the Transmission System Operator (TSO). A distinctive aspect of this pilot is its focus on tertiary and residential buildings, integrating concepts like energy communities and aggregators to enhance grid stability and optimize energy usage.

Key Takeaways from the Workshop

The discussions centered around:
Technical alignment between partners to ensure seamless integration of flexibility services.
Expectations and challenges related to the aggregation of energy flexibility from diverse building types.
The role of energy communities in enabling decentralized energy management and supporting grid resilience.

By fostering collaboration among Portuguese energy stakeholders, the HEDGE-IoT PT Pilot is paving the way for more efficient, interoperable, and AI-driven energy services that will shape the future of energy flexibility in Europe.
